graphedit 2.2.0 Stable
released this
2026-10-11 11:13:20 +00:00 | 18 commits to master since this releasegraphedit 2.2.0 adds a debugger: the editor runs models step by step through their language servers, stops them at breakpoints and shows and changes their variables, and agents debug through the agent api. It is also the first release with an installer for Windows and packages for Ubuntu.
Features
- Debugging: start debugging with
F6(or from the Debug menu or the debug panel). Every language whose language server can debug comes with a configuration, and projects can add their own (debugConfigurations). The canvas shows the vertices that a model is in and the steps that it can take (click a step to take it), and red dots mark the breakpoints on vertices and edges, which can have conditions and hit counts. Continue to the next breakpoint or pause (F8), step (F10), step back (Shift+F10, when the runtime keeps a history), and restart with the models as they are now (Ctrl+Shift+F6). See Debugging. - The debug panel has the controls and lists the steps (pointing at one emphasizes its elements on the canvas), the instances (choose the one that the canvas shows; the elements of the others carry badges), the variables (writable ones can be changed while the runtime is stopped), the breakpoints, and the stops so far (activate one to return to its state), with a filter for large networks.
- The debug protocol: language servers provide the runtime through the
debug/*methods of the graph language server protocol, modelled after the Debug Adapter Protocol: launch and attach, continue, pause, step, breakpoints, stop events and capabilities.language_server_hostserves runtimes written in C++. The LTS language server of the standard plugin debugs labelled transition systems, and aaltitoad-ls debugs NTTA models. - Agents debug too: the
debug.*methods of the agent api, in the editor, ingraphedit-cliand in its Model Context Protocol server. - The plugins panel offers to install, update or reinstall the plugins of the plugin databases, and uninstalls the plugins of the plugin directory of the user.
- A faster canvas: labels are drawn from a cache of images, so panning large models (such as NTTA networks) is smooth.
- Windows: graphedit runs on Windows 10 and later (64 bit). Run targets that run as shell commands use
cmd.exethere.
Packages
File Contents graphedit-2.2.0-Windows-x86_64.exethe installer for Windows 10 and later (64 bit), which contains Qt: an entry in the start menu, optionally a shortcut on the desktop, the programs on the PATH(forgraphedit-cli) and the development files./Sinstalls without questionsgraphedit-2.2.0-Windows-x86_64.zipthe same as an archive that works wherever it is unpacked (with the development files) graphedit_2.2.0_amd64.debthe Debian package for Ubuntu 24.10, which uses the Qt of Ubuntu: sudo apt install ./graphedit_2.2.0_amd64.debgraphedit-dev_2.2.0_amd64.debits development files, for building plugins graphedit-2.2.0-Linux-x86_64.tar.gzan archive for Linux that works wherever it is unpacked graphedit-2.2.0-Linux-x86_64.shthe same as a self-extracting installer: sh graphedit-2.2.0-Linux-x86_64.sh --prefix="$HOME/.local" --exclude-subdir --skip-license*.sha256their SHA-256 checksums The packages contain the editor,
graphedit-cli, the standard plugin and the cmake package for building plugins (see Packaging).- Windows: built on Linux with llvm-mingw against Qt 6.10.3, and tested with Wine: the test suites, and the installer and the archive in a new Wine prefix, with a plugin built against them. The installer is not signed, so Windows SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher. Plugins for these packages are built with llvm-mingw and Qt 6.10 for llvm-mingw.
- Ubuntu 24.10: built and tested on Ubuntu 24.10 (Qt 6.6), then installed and tested on a clean Ubuntu 24.10. Ubuntu 24.10 has reached the end of its life, so its packages come from
old-releases.ubuntu.com. - Linux archives: built on Arch Linux (x86_64, GCC 16, glibc 2.44). They use the Qt of the system, which is not included: they need Qt 6.11 or newer (Core, Network, Gui, Widgets and Svg). On other systems, build from source:
cmake --workflow --preset release(see the README).
Plugins must be built against the same major version of graphedit (and a Qt that is not newer than the one that loads them). Plugins built with CPM.cmake use
