graphedit 2.4.0 Stable
released this
2026-10-13 10:17:47 +00:00 | 0 commits to master since this releasegraphedit 2.4.0 gives the editor the colors of its new website: cool blue-grays, near black in the dark theme, with an electric blue accent. Plugins built for graphedit 2.x keep working.
Features
- New colors: the dark theme is near black with cool blue-gray panels, so that the canvas recedes behind the model; the accent is an electric blue, and warnings and errors are amber and red. The light theme uses the same hues on cool grays, darkened where text needs the contrast. Every text color has at least the contrast it had before. Design shows the new palette and its pictures show the components in the new colors.

graphedit 2.3.0 Stable
released this
2026-10-12 13:05:08 +00:00 | 2 commits to master since this releasegraphedit 2.3.0 gives the editor a new look and a more flexible workspace: split views with tabs that are dragged between groups and windows, a command palette, and new looks for the inspector, the side panels and the settings. Plugins built for graphedit 2.x keep working.
Features
- A new look: the editor is styled with the colors of its theme (dark or light): flat, rounded buttons, tabs with an accent underline, menus with room, one-pixel splitters and thin scroll bars. The tools of the editor toolbar are centered, the selected tool is accent, the side panel shows the title of its panel, booleans are switches, and selections are a soft tint of the accent. Design describes the colors, type, spacing and components, for keeping the look coherent (also in plugins).
- Split views: editor tabs are in groups next to and below each other. Drag a tab onto the tabs of a group, into a group, or to an edge of a group to split it (a marker shows where it goes); drag it out of the windows to give it a window of its own, and back onto the tabs of the main window to dock it again. Split Right (
Ctrl+\), Split Down and the button next to the tabs show a model twice, e.g. two parts of a large network. - The command palette (
Ctrl+Shift+P) finds every command of the menus (with its shortcut), the side panels and the models of the project by typing a few of their letters. - Switching models:
Shift+Tabin an editor goes to the next open model,Ctrl+TabandCtrl+Shift+Tabgo forward and back from anywhere. - The inspector shows a card for each selected element (its type, an aligned form, switches for booleans), and the declarations and metadata of the focused model. Right-click a vertex or an edge to edit its properties right in its context menu.
- The plugins panel shows cards: the state of each plugin, a switch that enables it, and what can be done with it; Available lists the plugins that are not installed or have updates, and a banner offers to restart the editor after changes.
- The agent panel is a chat: your prompts, the answers of the agent, the tools that it used, permission requests as cards with their answers, and suggested prompts for a new conversation.
- The files panel shows the project with its buttons, tells models, the project file and other files apart, and chooses which files are shown in one menu. The settings (editor and project) are pages of cards with a description of every setting.
- The official plugin database (
agj/graphedit-plugindb) is set up by default.

graphedit 2.2.0 Stable
released this
2026-10-11 11:13:20 +00:00 | 18 commits to master since this releasegraphedit 2.2.0 adds a debugger: the editor runs models step by step through their language servers, stops them at breakpoints and shows and changes their variables, and agents debug through the agent api. It is also the first release with an installer for Windows and packages for Ubuntu.
Features
- Debugging: start debugging with
F6(or from the Debug menu or the debug panel). Every language whose language server can debug comes with a configuration, and projects can add their own (debugConfigurations). The canvas shows the vertices that a model is in and the steps that it can take (click a step to take it), and red dots mark the breakpoints on vertices and edges, which can have conditions and hit counts. Continue to the next breakpoint or pause (F8), step (F10), step back (Shift+F10, when the runtime keeps a history), and restart with the models as they are now (Ctrl+Shift+F6). See Debugging. - The debug panel has the controls and lists the steps (pointing at one emphasizes its elements on the canvas), the instances (choose the one that the canvas shows; the elements of the others carry badges), the variables (writable ones can be changed while the runtime is stopped), the breakpoints, and the stops so far (activate one to return to its state), with a filter for large networks.
- The debug protocol: language servers provide the runtime through the
debug/*methods of the graph language server protocol, modelled after the Debug Adapter Protocol: launch and attach, continue, pause, step, breakpoints, stop events and capabilities.language_server_hostserves runtimes written in C++. The LTS language server of the standard plugin debugs labelled transition systems, and aaltitoad-ls debugs NTTA models. - Agents debug too: the
debug.*methods of the agent api, in the editor, ingraphedit-cliand in its Model Context Protocol server. - The plugins panel offers to install, update or reinstall the plugins of the plugin databases, and uninstalls the plugins of the plugin directory of the user.
- A faster canvas: labels are drawn from a cache of images, so panning large models (such as NTTA networks) is smooth.
- Windows: graphedit runs on Windows 10 and later (64 bit). Run targets that run as shell commands use
cmd.exethere.

graphedit 2.1.0 Stable
released this
2026-10-08 06:37:22 +00:00 | 44 commits to master since this releasegraphedit 2.1.0 adds an agent panel to the editor, ways for agents to point at elements, box selection, and plugin databases with a build per platform.
Features
- Agent panel: a chat with Claude Code or GitHub Copilot CLI about the open project. The agent uses
graphedit-clias its Model Context Protocol server, so its changes go through the agent api of the editor: they show up right away and can be undone. The panel shows the agent's answers, tool calls and errors. You answer the agent's permission requests there (allow, always allow, deny), you can stop the agent and start new conversations, and a throbber spins while the agent works. editor.highlight: agents point the user to several elements at once. The elements are brought into view (zooming out if they don't fit) and pulse, without changing the selection. Edges now pulse too.- Box selection: the
box-selecttool selects the vertices and edges that lie completely within a box dragged open on the empty canvas. Ctrl adds to the selection, and in the unified tool Ctrl+drag on the canvas does the same. - Plugin databases can list a build of each version per platform (
linux-x86_64,windows-x86_64,macos-arm64). The plugins panel offers the versions that have a build for its platform, and older editors skip them.

graphedit 2.0.0 Stable
released this
2026-10-07 06:06:21 +00:00 | 51 commits to master since this releaseThe first release of graphedit 2, the C++/Qt edition of graphedit: an editor for graph-based languages whose syntaxes, views, language servers, importers and exporters are plugins.
- Edit models on a canvas, with an undo tree, grid snapping, zooming and detachable editor tabs.
- Syntaxes for labelled transition systems, Petri nets and simple graphs, and language servers that report diagnostics while models are edited (a JSON-RPC protocol modelled after the language server protocol).
- Projects with search, run targets, import from and export to TAPAAL, and the files of graphedit 1.x.
- An agent api for AI agents:
graphedit-cli, a Model Context Protocol server and the running editor. - Plugins are built against the cmake package (
find_package(graphedit 2)), or with graphedit as a subproject (e.g. CPM.cmake withGIT_TAG v2.0.0). - Packages:
cmake --workflow --preset release(an archive and a self-extracting installer, or a Debian package).
